Manufacturers of linear motion components, such as ball screws and linear guides, have made significant investments in factory capacity in recent years. In the current global economic downturn will they now need to moth ball production lines or even close whole factories? IMS Analyst James Dawson thinks not. âWe will undoubtedly see a slowing in demand for linear motion components as companies postpone and even cancel investment in machinery due to the down turn in the world economy and the difficulties in raising finance. However, the majority of manufacturers have been quite shrewd in where they have built additional factory capacity. We have seen companies open new factories in regions of the highest growth, such as Asia Pacific and China. Demand for ball screws and linear guides in these emerging markets will continue to remain robust even through the downturn.
In early January 2009, the Fieldbus Foundation announced new device development solutions for its Foundation for Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF) technology. The latest SIF release includes the Foundation for SIF final Technical Specification package, SIF Interoperability Test Kit (ITK), and updated DD Library with SIF function blocks. These solutions support development of interoperable SIF devices for use in a wide range of industrial plant SIF applications.
As industrial markets become progressively globalized, there is an indispensable need for companies to inform their customers around the world about the latest innovations, system refinements and services. Trade exhibitions like HANNOVER MESSE - attracting potential customers from Germany and all over the world - take on an increasingly critical role here. And the organizers, Deutsche Messe, are also busy building bridges to all the key global growth markets for the benefit of machine and plant manufacturers everywhere. "The leading trade fair for Motion, Drive & Automation will be booked solid as expected, featuring over 1,300 participating exhibitors," reports Manfred Kutzinski, Project Manager at Deutsche Messe. This year a total of 13 trade fairs staged under the umbrella of HANNOVER MESSE (20 to 24 April 2009) will ensure an interesting forum guaranteed to draw representatives from domestic and international industry to Hannover.
According to a study by IMS Research, differences in performance and appearance between PLC hardware from different suppliers are becoming less. Accordingly, major PLC suppliers are focusing more on being a âsolution providerâ, to expand both their PLC and other automation business. Although this trend started several years ago, the growing importance of sharing information and software developments have made integrated automation solutions more important today. Customers increasingly need to make good business decisions based on information obtained from the plant floor. The PLC plays an important role in integrated automation solutions. The integration of a PLC into the whole system solution makes it not just a single controller, but a true extension of the whole enterprise computer system. In addition, an integrated automation solution with PLCs can also perform tasks in process control, motion control, drive control, PID control, maintenance, etc.
As one of the industrialized world's biggest consumers of energy, the manufacturing sector is uniquely positioned to make a major contribution to global CO2 emission reduction. To do this, it needs to implement energy-efficient processes and technologies as quickly and on as wide a scale as possible. The INTERKAMA+ tradeshow at HANNOVER MESSE 2009 (April 20 to 24) is gearing up to make a contribution of global significance in this area via its "Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes" display. HANNOVER MESSE 2009 will identify and quantify the main areas of production in which energy use can be optimized and savings achieved. It will also demonstrate a range of fully developed, market-ready process automation products and technologies for realizing these savings.
According to the latest statistics from IMS Research, the worldwide market for low voltage AC & DC motor drives experienced unprecedented revenue growth in 2007, increasing by 19.7% over 2006 levels. Data reported by leading drives suppliers indicate all regions and industry segments exhibited strong growth during the year. The market is expected to continue performing well despite the global economic downturn, with positive growth forecast for both 2008 and 2009, when annual revenue growth should bottom out at 3.7%. High energy prices and an increased focus on energy efficiency will maintain positive growth of market revenues, which are expected to increase by an average annual rate of 10.4% throughout the forecast period to reach an estimated value of $13.6 billion by 2012.
The Fieldbus Foundation today announced that the Wireless Cooperation Team (WCT), one year after its formation, has achieved a number of milestones toward the development of an interface specification and compliance guidelines to integrate a universally accepted wireless solution into the HART, Foundation fieldbus, PROFIBUS and PROFINET communications networks. The common interface is intended to make it easier for automation end-users to take advantage of evolving wireless technologies. The collaborative effort of the WCT is sponsored by the Fieldbus Foundation, HART Communication Foundation, and Profibus Nutzerorganisation e.V. (PNO), to facilitate the acceptance of wireless technology in the manufacturing and process industries worldwide.
The first part of WIN - World of Industry - welcomed thousands of professionals from all over the world and neighboring countries in particular between 5 - 8 February 2009 at TUYAP Fair and Congress Center, Istanbul, Turkey. The show proved to be a good meeting place in the Eurasian and Middle Eastern Regions with 8% more exhibiting companies compared to last year and represented brands as well as supporting companies. This year's fair hosted 659 exhibitors from 24 countries, which showcased their latest technologies on a net area of 22,650 sqm dedicated to the four manufacturing sectors of machinery, welding, surface treatment and materials handling,. As a result of intensive national and international promotion campaigns, 43,645 visitors from 52 countries found out about the latest trends and innovations of the relevant industries at the show.
WIN â World of Industry, the number 1 industry event of the Eurasian Region, closed its doors on March 1st with the same high-level results like the previous year. The fair continued to bring 7 interrelated sectors of industrial production together. 1,358 direct exhibitors - 659 in Phase 1 and 699 in Phase 2 - used the fair as a platform to meet existing clients and establish new contacts. This year WIN welcomed 113,992 professional visitors in two phases (Phase 1: 43,645, Phase 2: 70,347). Besides a strong interest of the domestic industrial manufacturing sector, the fair has attracted a significant number of international buyers not only from neighboring countries but also from all over Europe, the Far-Middle East and America. Organized in the same concept with the worldâs leading industrial fair HANNOVER MESSE, WIN â World of Industry will be organized in two parts in 2010 as well; 1st part: 4 to 7 February 2010 and 2nd part 25 to 28 February 2010.
